The government of Gyeonggi Province has enforced various agricultural measures such as promoting exportation, Green Farm Experience Villages, planting 100 million trees, improving the brand image of Korean beef produced from the region and other projects to make a better fishing and agrarian environment.
Expansion on superior rice and improvements to rice processing facilities to improve the quality of rice raised in Gyeonggi-do has increased profits of farmhouses this year.
Improvements to the dehydration of grain and storage facilities has greatly improved quality and took up 56% of total rice purchase and also increased profits by 15~17%.
The increase of environmentally friendly farms has allowed cultivating safe farm products and protecting the environment at the same time. Cultivation area was enlarged this year to 5,544 ha from last year’s 4,673 ha and this year’s output has increased from 84,000 tons (’02) to 90,000 tons (’03).
In relation with this, environmentally friendly integrated rice-duck cultivation method allows to grow rice without any agricultural chemicals, reduce fertilizer by 50%, sold by 20~30% higher price than regular rice and cultivation rate of eco-friendly produce took up 4.2% that is higher than the national rate of 2.9%.
Direct transactions of farm produce has also been improved to reduce total distribution cost by 263 billion won, obtain increase of the farm acceptance price to 125.5 billion won (about 10%) from the current transaction result of 1.255 trillion won this year. (31% of total farm produce distribution) and also reduced consumer price to by 138 billion won (about 11%).
Marketing of export strategic items, which are ginseng, kimchi, grapes, tomatoes, pears, processed food, cactus, paprika, western orchids and so forth, where practiced in Japan, China, Europe and other countries to promote exportation goal of 120 million dollars. Efforts to globalize Korean agricultural products through multinational distribution enterprises have been promoted this year.
