The Gyeonggi-do government has approved to apply the same student discount of reducing 250 won from bus fares onto juveniles who are not students starting next year.

The existing transportation cards for students were issued to middle and high school students but weren’t issued to juveniles who could not attend regular schools due to personal reasons. These non-student juveniles have been paying the same fare as adults without any discount benefits.

The government of Gyeonggi-do has planned to solve this by issuing the same discount transportation cards, which are issued to students, to non-students from ages 13 to 18. With this card non-students will only pay 450 won to use bus transportation.

However with cash payment, the adult fare of 700 won is applied.

Non-student juveniles residing in Gyeonggi-do are do not have to go through the procedure of presenting a juvenile identification card when boarding buses as in Seoul. The card design is the same as those used by students.

Transportation cards can be easily ordered through the Internet by the following two sites, Gyeonggi-do Bus Association (www.buscard.or.kr) and eBEST (www.ebestcard.com), or at nearby eup, myeon or dong offices.

Gyeonggi-do is planning to apply discounts to urban buses and subways starting from the latter half of next year after reaching an agreement with Seoul and Incheon.
