High-tech industrial complex within Gyeonggi-do will steer national economy competitiveness

The provincial governor of Gyeonggi-do, Hak-kyu Sohn stressed, “The effect from creating a large-scale high-tech industrial complex within Gyeonggi-do, will promote local economy and also contribute to the national economy. Diversified plans such as improvements in the surrounding environment are required.” He also added, “A counterplan to improve administration procedures is needed for corporates seeking assistance from the provincial office.” 

At an invitation lecture at the ’25th GFEO (Gyeonggi Federation of Economic Organizations) Breakfast Forum’ on Jan. 28, Sohn talked only ‘Gyeonggi-do leading Korea’s economic take-off’. Through his speech Sohn remarked, “Gyeonggi-do has been showing a high economic growth rate that is 1.8 to 2 times higher than the total economic growth rate of Korea. With this potential, it is important on how the Gyeonggi province will lead Korea’s economy.” 

Governor Sohn added, “Currently over 50% of the total high-tech industry is occupied by the province, with LG.Phillips LCD in Paju, one of Japan’s major enterprises Sumitomo Chemical in Pyeongtaek and recently the world automobile parts company, Delphi has decided on establishing its Asia strongpoint in Yongin. World famous enterprises are preparing to take position in Gyeonggi-do and the province’s scale is continuously increasing.” 

Sohn expressed his strong will by remarking, “Gyeonggi-do must set up an industrial course, create an industrial infrastructure and also improve its environment. We must standup and directly solve find our own solutions instead of waiting for the central government to do the job.”
