At the end of last year, Gyeonggi-do’s population has been official computed to be 10,361,638 (foreigners included), 3.6% (361,591) more than the former year.
Total household of 3,592,144 has also increased 5.8% (197,207) than the former year’s total of 3,394,937 5.8%.
Gyeonggi-do’s population exceeds Seoul population (10,276,968) by 84,670.
According to the provincial government on Feb. 5, the majority of the population is male (5,249,571) and female population takes up about 137,000. By age, residents in their thirties are 21.2%, forties 17.0% and those over their eighties takes up 1%.
Population by city and district in order are; Suwon City (104,223), Seongnam City (970,470), Goyang City (873,006) and Yeoncheon-gun (50,186). In Yongin City’s case, number of residents has increased by about 54,000 during this period and both Ansan City and Goyang City has also increased each by about 34,000 and 32,000.
On the contrary, the population of five cities and districts has reduced; Gwangmyeong City by 4,101, and also Yeoncheon-gun, Gapyeong-gun, Gwacheon City, Guri City.
Largest population by village is Jungwang 1-dong, Siheung City (58,774), by town is Giheung-eup, Yongin City (106,193) and by township is Pogok-myeon, Yong-in City (30,137). Smallest of them all is Jindong-myeon, Paju City with only 128 residents.
Foreigners residing in Gyeonggi-do add up to 154,787, which have increased due to the legalization of illegal sojourn, 113.3% (82,213) compared to the estimate taken at the end of 2002. Foreigners by city and district order are Ansan City (20,062), Seongnam City (8,422), Siheung City (8,392) and more.
In nationality order, Chinese comes first with about 57,000, Indonesian and Philippine each adds up about 10,000, Vietnamese about 7,000 and Americans about 6,000.
