The symposium is to draw out detailed development plans for Research Institute of Fusion Technology scheduled to open inside the Techno Valley in Gwangyo, Yieui-dong. The prime objective of the institute to create the research foundation for exploiting the new field while fostering elite workforce. Public opinions and expert suggestions from the symposium will be taken into serious consideration in business process.
The event will begin with a presentation titled “Background for founding the Research Institute of Fusion Technology for the Next Generation and its Basic Management Principles” by Professor Lee Geon-woo of the Seoul University. Dr. Kim Gun-su from the Gyeonggi Research Institute is to follow with a presentation titled “Effects that the Research Institute for Fusion Technology for the Next Generation will have on the regional science technology industry.”
After the presentations, experts from industry, academia, research, and government sectors will engage in designated discussions; a general discussion will summarize the event at the end.
Many countries across the world are fiercely competing against one another to secure high-end technology such as fusion technology. Advanced fusion technology is studied mostly by university research institutes to lead the industry.
Gyeonggi-do has been experiencing difficulties in terms of industrial competitive edge due to the shortage of technology, productivity, and specialized researchers despite environmental factors sufficient to become a mecca for the high-end value-added industry.
The province now plans to heighten the regional industrial capacity by fully utilizing the growth engine for the next generation while fostering specialized workforce in the science technology engineering sector. It is to establish the Research Institute of Fusion Technology for the Next Generation fun by the Seoul University to accommodate the industry’s needs.
Gyeonggi-do and the Seoul Univeristy signed an MOU for this project on May 3, 2004. The basic plan drafting and feasibility study is in process after the Gyeonggi Research Institute was requested to carry out the service on August 12.
Core technology of digital contents, human technology, and next generation automobile as well as fusion technology for IT, NT, and BT will be studied in the new establishment. It will feature the research and educational facilities, dormitories, condominiums, libraries and the research park.
