– Violetta Bazenova Appointed as the New Artistic Director of Gyeonggi-do Drama Company – 

Son Hahk-kyu provincial governor appointed Violetta Bazenova as the new artistic director of Gyeonggi-do Drama Company on December 14. 

Bazenova has been a renowned producer and an educator from St. Petersburg State Theatre Arts Academy in Russia. She studied drama production in St. Petersburg University of Culture and Arts (formerly known as Leningrad State College of Culture). Her career in the arts sector began when she won the grand prize from the Russia National Student Drama Concours in 1975. She was trained by a nationally renowned actress M.V. until she successfully graduated from the Academy. 

She has directed more than twenty drama productions and TV series, and has taught at the St. Petersburg State Theatre Arts Academy since 1990. 

Her production of The Miracle Worker (U. Gibson) was staged at Lensoviet Theatre for three years, and it was invited to Sweden for extended staging. It also received the “Petersburg’s Muse” and “Drama Association” awards. 

Gyeonggi-do’s determination to develop the province’s center for arts as an internationally renowned facility has brought about innovative changes in the organization as well as in the creative and performance activities. There is much expectation put on the new appointment of the artistic director. 

The Drama Company official stated, “Bazenova’s appointment as a new artistic director is expected to improve the performance quality along with the performers’ basic training and acting abilities through systematic production management.”
