Gyeonggi-do will offer overseas training opportunities for 100 persons working in seven sectors including rice cultivation, tourism, cow grazing, fishery, and forestry between March 7 and May 27.

A provincial official stated that the training program began in 2001 to enhance the competitiveness of the farming and fishery sectors by benchmarking the government support system and advanced technology and management cases. The program accelerated as the rural areas experienced further difficulty due to the opening of agricultural goods market to better the public spirit.

Based on the provincial budgetary status, 40% (\100 million) of the previous year’s business funding was secured. Each trainee will be subsidized with \1 million with him/her taking the extra monetary burden.

More female workers (30 -> 32) in the industry who have relatively less opportunities for overseas training are selected as the training beneficiaries this year. The training destination was limited to China, Japan, and Taiwan that have similar agricultural conditions as Korea does. The program in Japan is 5 days long whereas that in China and Taiwan is 6 days long.

The trainees can be divided based on sectors as the following: * Orchard (Taiwan): 13 *Fishery (Japan): 13 *Cow Grazing (Japan): 15 *Vegetable (Taiwan): 15 *Rice Cultivation (China): 15 *Forestry (Taiwan): 15 *Tourism (Japan): 14.

The province will evaluate and report outcomes of the training program by sector afterward to promote rural development in Korea based on advanced management and technology know-how gained from it.
