At the Gyeonggi Provincial Office-sponsored export business sessions held in San Francisco, Dallas and Vancouver between March 6 and 13, twenty SMEs located in the province, most of them engaged in the IT (information technology) businesses, won $45 million worth of supply contracts out of business discussions involving $280 million worth of goods, thus succeeding in making a foray into the North American market.

The export business sessions held this time were provided for by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office for its IT businesses that have difficulty in overseas marketing due to the lack of funds and sufficient human resources despite proven technological prowess.

At the sessions, a business engaged in production of parking systems won a $150,000 order from an American business that has 14 branches across the U.S. A business producing portable X-ray equipment won a $1.4 million contract from a company based in San Francisco. In Vancouver, a Canadian business expressed a desire to act as a sales agent for the Korean business in that part of the world. A business making ultraviolet light tick removers received a promise from an importer in Vancouver, who recognized the excellence of the product, that he would help it earn the CRA certification required for export to Canada and import them right upon earning the certification.

Those who attended the sessions say that the good result was attributable to the fact that the Gyeonggi Province brand is now recognized as reliable in connection with the annual export business sessions held in North America from 2002 and that the Governor’s personal appearance at the session to express interest in individual businesses.

It is reported that the provincial office also has a plan to take a positive step to set up footholds in the BRIC (Brazil, Russia, India and China) markets ahead of competitors.
