On April 25 (the European time), the KANC (Korea Advanced Nano Fab Center) announced that it signed an MOU for mutual cooperation with IMEC (Interuniversity Micro Electronics Center, http://www.imec.be) on the occasion of Science and Technology Vice Minister Choi Suk-shik’s visit to the non-profit organization in Belgium
After signing the MOU, KANC President Lee Jung-won and IMEC President Gilbert Declerck discussed ways of joint use of the Fab facilities and joint appraisal of nano technologies.
The KANC expects that the MOU signed this time will go a long way in laying the groundwork for international cooperation with world-class nano technology research centers and in stimulating the development relevant domestic technologies. It expects to provide improved R&D services related to nano technology to businesses and contribute to earlier commercialization of relevant technologies in connection with the planned exchange of researchers with IMEC.
The KANC was organized by a Gyeonggi Provincial Office-led consortium composed of the Ministry of Science and Technology, KIST, Seoul National University, Sugnkyunkwan University, Hanyang University, Ajou University and Korea Electronics Technology Institute for invigoration of R&D activities in non-silicon nano materials, including compound semiconductors. The center’s building is being built with the schedule for completion in June 2006.
