High-End R&D Hub of Gwanggyo Techno Valley
Gyeonggi-do will host a groundbreaking ceremony for construction of a high-end R&D center near Gwanggyo Techno Valley on July 26. The center will become the home for advanced research and business works in Ieui-dong, Suwon, and its vicinities.
Construction of Gyeonggi R&DB Center with the floor space of 9,500-pyeong (2 underground stories, 7 aboveground stories) over 5,600-pyeong land is scheduled for completion in December 2006. \47.8 billion is invested to this project with an aim to house a number of internationally renowned research bodies and market-leading companies for the goal of heightened competitiveness of advanced technology industries in Gyeonggi-do.
Consequently, the center will provide home for numerous business and research bodies to catalyze Gyeonggi-do’s effort to attract foreign investment. It will also be utilize as an SOC infrastructure necessary for R&D, business start-up, and branch opening.
Advanced R&D Complex for joint effort by industry, academy, and research sectors in Gwanggyo Techno Valley near Gyeonggi R&DB Center is preparing for the opening of Korea Advanced Nano Fab Center and Gyeonggi Bio Center. Detailed plans for constructing Hwang Woo-seok Biological Organic Research Center and SNU Fusion Technology Institute are also being drafted for completion in 2007. The area is expected to become the mecca of advanced technology sector, which leads the nation’s R&D industry, based on cooperative relationship, joint R&D effort, and cross regional/ industry network.
Creation of “Pangyo IT Business Zone” over 200,000-pyeong land in Pangyo New City will be accompanied by introduction of various corporate and academic R&D facilities from across the world for development of core IT technology. As a result Pangyo will become a city of advanced knowledge industry. These changes will help SMEs to secure market competitiveness by promoting the region’s innovation under the leadership of Gyeonggi SMB Center, Gyeonggi TP, Gyeonggi Daejin TP.
On a side note, Gyeonggi-do has successfully housed $13.2 billion investment from 61 foreign companies in 3 years. The province plans to aggressively push forward with development of IT, BT, NT, FT, and R&D industries to shed much spotlight on Gyeonggi R&DB Center to house a number of international advanced technology research institutes.
Provincial Governor Sohn Hak-kyu presented the public with Gyeonggi R&DB Center’s roles and vision at the groundbreaking ceremony by saying, “The province will provide fully-rounded support for the center to house the world’s core technology leaders and promote R&D and business innovation. Transfer and spread of technology developed in the center will further attract more research bodies, businesses, and talented people to make Gwanggyo Techno Valley a learning region.”
