The new character of Gyeonggi-do, ‘Blue Ring’, has been born.
The province has introduced Gyeonggi-do’s new character, Blue Ring, at the end of February, and has presented various adapted characters to approach provincial citizens in a more friendly way.
The purport of Blue Ring fits with the brand image of Gyeonggi-do, and was made last July. The combination of several circles and lines signify ‘Globalism’, ‘Communication’, ‘Action’, and ‘Long-term values’. The large circle in the middle is a symbol of Earth, and stresses ‘Gyeonggi-do within the world’, connecting each nation with one another and also cities and counties within the province.
If the previous symbol of Gyeonggi-do defined dignity, Blue Ring is a more friendly and gentle image in order to increase efficiency in the promotion of provincial government.
The adapted characters of Blue Ring are intended to be used in suitable places like regional uses, public welfare, IT, and other events. It will play an active part as a cultural resource ambassador as in provincial government campaigns, the English village, and Halyuwood (‘Halyu’: Korean culture), not to mention that it will be used in diverse character goods.
Blue Ring is also significant in that it was developed with the collaborative work of experts and citizens. Blue Ring was decided on by collecting the ideas of Gyeonggi-do citizens (180 people), provincial office employees (243 people), and Design professors and students of Jangan College (120 people) with the seven primary candidate designs for four months from October to January.
Meaning of ‘Blue Ring’ Logo
– The circle in the middle is a figuration of the Earth, and the arms and legs are extended outwards to express ‘Gyeonggi-do reaching out to the world’.
– The circles and straight lines are organically connected, which is an expression of the effort to ‘unite’ through the ‘network’ of cities and counties within the province while respecting each others’ individuality.
– The color Blue is a symbol of ‘high technology, creativity, and revolution’, and the thumbs up of the hand is a demonstration of ‘being the best in the world’.
– The “Blue” in the name of ‘Blue Ring’, represents the color of the character, but also signifies ‘high technology, creativity, and revolution’, and “Ring” means ‘living together’, a harmonious network, which also denotes ‘Gyeonggi-do as a hopeful network’.
