Gyeonggi-do, Energetic Start to Induce 100th High-tech Enterprise
-Visits Europe and attracts foreign investment from global corporations like Infineon and Weir

The Gyonggi-do European high-tech corporation inducement team, with Son Hak-gyu as its chief, will be going to Europe to attract foreign investment from France, UK and Germany from April 9 to 14.

The team will be meeting with eight corporations during this period, and is planning to conduct investment agreements with seven of these enterprises that amount to 271 million dollars. The province’s investment inducement team consists of not only provincial workers, but also the vice chairman of the Gyeonggi division at the Federation of Korean Trade Unions, Lee Hwa-soo, and provincial members of the Assembly, who are sure to help win over the investors.

In particular, since Son Hak-gyu has been inaugurated, the 3rd governor of Gyeonggi-do to attain the office by popular vote, his main priority has been to attract foreign investment. As a result, an agreement ceremony with the 100th corporation, FCI, a leading automobile parts company in France is expected to take place, which makes the event more significant.

FCI, who had the fortune of being the 100th investment company, is an enterprise that produces core connectors that go into automobiles and computers. And FCI had established a manufacturing factor at Gyeonggi-do in 2004, but the water supply did not function smoothly, which made any supplementary investment a very hard decision.

However, after constructing a water supply way and aggressive administrational support, they decided on increasing Korean investment, becoming the 100th high-tech foreign corporation to be induced.

Along with this, MCL (Micro Components Ltd.) will be entering into contract on an MOU about building a 160 million dollar manufacturing facility at Jangan Industrial Complex in Hwasung.

In addition, Weir, UK’s major industrial valve manufacturing company, RFI-Global, a global wireless communications certification company, and Gyeonggi-do has determined as its next growing industry Atomistix, a Danish company that possesses nano-technology, is planning to enter contract on an MOU.

Also, HOT, a plasma coating company that holds its head office in Germany, and A-tmz, an automobile parts manufacturer that holds its head office in Düsseldorf, will each be entering an MOU with estimated investments of 30million dollars and 50million dollars in Gyeonggi-do’s foreigner-exclusive industrial complex.

The businesses that have undergone negotiation and/or have agreed to invest consist of 3 instances of semiconductor and wireless communications companies that amount to 200 million dollars, 3 cases concerning automobile part manufacturers amounting to 90million dollars, and 1 case of nano-technology of 2 million dollars, and 1 case of industrial parts of 9 million dollars. These all concern core industries that Korea is concentrating on for the future, and will be sure to significantly help raise domestic companies to international level.

In addition, as a result of 4 years at inducing high-tech foreign corporations to invest in the domestic market since Son Hak-gyu’s inauguration, Gyeonggi-do has won 1.25 billion dollars from 105 corporations. Through this, direct and indirect employment has been created (direct employment: 30 thousand workers, indirect employment: 50 thousand workers), and provincial, and ultimately national industrial competitive power has risen profoundly.

Gyeonggi-do will continue to use the high-grade infrastructure in the metropolitan area to elevate the nation’s competitive power with automobile, semiconductor, displayer (TFT-LCD), pharmaceutical and bio industries and R&D facilities to lead the way.
