A Traditional Chinese Garden called ‘Walhwawon’ opened its doors to the public on April 17. This 1,800 pyeong garden is located in Hyowon Park in Ingye-dong, Paldal-gu, Suwon-si.
Walhwawon started construction after about 80 Chinese constructors were dispatched to Korea in June, 2005. These Chinese constructors led the construction to completion in December and all preparations for the ceremony for completion are set.
Provincial governor Sohn, Hakkyu, Rwe, Woram from Guangdong Province, China, councilor Ju, Myunggeul from the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in China and about 100 delegates will attend the completion ceremony for Walhwawon which will symbolize the solid partnership between the Gyeonggi Province and Guangdong Province.
The construction of Walhwawon was first discussed between Sohn, Hakkyu and Guangdong Province governor Hwang, Hwahwalast October in 2002. This traditional Chinese garden worth 2.3 million dollars started through the friendship interchange between both provinces.
Walhwawon started construction in last June, 2005 and was completed last winter in December.
Construction ceremony of Gyeonggi-do’s “Haedong Gyeonggiwon” was held in Yuexiu Park, Guangzhou Cite, Guangdong Province last December 12 and is gaining its fame as a sightseeing place with an average 12,000 visitors a day after 4 months since it first opened.
A Gyeonggi-do officer remarked, “the construction of a traditional park in both provinces will arouse the cultural pride in both provincial residents and also expand the understanding of traditional culture and interchange.” He also added, “these gardens play a role as a meeting place and sentiment resting place for residents in both provinces.”
