Province, city, and district governments gathered to decide the measure on Sep. 04.

Gyeonggi province will start restoration work for the areas stricken by a torrential rain poured down in Jul. 09~29.

With all this other concerned parties of the province, Gyeonggi discussed for the complete restoration plan for the stricken areas.

There are total 73ha sized areas with landfalls and 13km of temporary city village damaged with a heavy rain and Ahnsung appeared to be the mostly damaged area.

Power cable damaged by the landfall in Ahnsung caused the second damage in the lower cities. Local province, on Aug. 31, had a discussion with Korea Electric Power Corporation to set up an immediate restoration plan. All the areas with power cable in Gyeonggi are to be rechecked to prevent any further damage.

Compared to the other provinces in Korea, the heavy rain damage in Gyeonggi was much lower than the others, aided by the Landfall Prediction implemented in 2003 and the debris barriers installed in advance. To prevent any damages that may occur in the next season, more preventive facilities and plan will be established.

Aided by the debris barriers installed in the valley of Seoknam-sa at Seoun Mountain, the damage was much less than feared. Also, Janheung in Yangju which experienced a terrible disaster in a few years ago has no damage in this season.

“Within this year, we will be able to finish the ground work and be able to plant trees by next year. So, the restoration work will be completed before the next rain season. However, the province seeks for the residents support and cooperation to build and grow trees to the forest.” said the official from the Gyeonggi province.
