Under the sponsorship of the Gyeonggi-do government (Provincial Governor: Kim Moon-soo) and supervision of the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation (representative: Lee Geung-hee), the -2006 World Peace Festival- officially come to an end with the ending ceremony held at Imjin-gak Pyeonghoa Nuri at 6:30PM on Sept. 24.

All those who desire world peace have participated in the One-Korea marathon race on the last day of the festival. The ending ceremony started with showing highlights taken during the festival.

Gyeonggi-do Provincial Governor, Kim Moon-soo addressed at the ending ceremony remarking “The past four days of the World Peace Festival has brought 4 million people together wishing for peace. Our peace-making spirit will continue forever.”

The Gyeonggi National Classical Music Orchestra performed Arirang by regional versions after the ceremony and many spectators sung the famous Korean song along with the orchestra. The Gyeonggi Philharmonic Orchestra Rhythm Ensemble continued after that with ‘Remembrance of Peace’.

Starting from the World Peace Day on Sept. 21, the festival was held for four days and over 30 cultural arts and volunteer groups have participated. Related parties total in about 1,500 people and about 100 thousand spectators came to experience and enjoy the peaceful festival.

During the festival, the English ‘Peace One Day’ (Committee Chairman, Jeremy Gilly) has officially declared affiliation. Now 192 countries around the world join to commemorate the World Peace Festival every year.

Both youths and seniors have come together as one to pray for peace and unification. Through this opportunity, Imjin-gak Pyeonghoa Nuri was newly recognized as a new peace symbol.
