Gyeonggi-do, provides Hangeul education to immigrants

The Gyeonggi-do government is providing Hangeul education to female immigrants who have come to Korea through international marriage. This education program is to help them to overcome language communication and culture difference.

A three month course is operated at the Osan Immigrant Laborer Center (public subscribed in Sept.) from Oct. 10 to Dec. 29. This course is targeted for internationally married immigrants from Osan, Hwaseong, Pyeongtaek and other parts of Gyeonggi-do.

Beginners class is held every Tuesdays and Thursdays starting from 10AM till 12PM for 2 hours, and for those who work there is an afternoon class every Sunday from 4PM to 6 PM.

Immigrants will learn the Korean language for writing and daily expressions to ease their first steps in Korea. As an extension, the government also plans to promote cultural experience events for locals and immigrants to enjoy the Korean culture and also foreign customs.

The Hangeul education will be a stepping stone for the interchange between immigrants and local residents and also an essential education opportunity for those who are not acquaint with the Korean tongue.

A government office remarked, “We expect immigrants to overcome the social isolation through Hangeul education and enjoy Korean culture as a social member of the Korean society.
