Gyeonggi busy greeting winter!
Every farmhouse is busy bracing up for a chilly season.
As winter season draws near, thorough countermeasures to prevent any potential seasonal disasters or crop damages are urgently required. Accordingly, Gyeonggi province has formed special task force team to closely react against any seasonal calamities such as heavy snowfalls, cold wave attack and etc., who actually started its operation since October 1.
On the 13th, local province also reported that every farmhouse in the province would need to pay high level of attention against any sudden attacks of snowfall and cold wave.
Grape trees which are very vulnerable to coldness, will be able to stay warm by being buried in the ground. Also the crown part of the trees of pear and apple should be covered with anything to prevent any frost damage. Putting a double entrance door and windshield can also increase the temperature by 3~4c inside the glasshouse. Cattle shed will also be able to enjoy warmth during the cold season with a heating apparatus and it is also very important to block any remaining vents inside the shed, otherwise it will allow freezing cold wind from outside.
However, to escape from the heavy snowfall, the temperature of the glasshouse has to be maintained at a certain level for all time with a heating apparatus installed inside. Snowfalls on the roof has to be swept off often so not to have more than 4 tons of snow on the roof or 50§³ of the snow on the roof which may become very dangerous. Any glasshouse off during the winter season shall remove the covering of the roof. Also the glasshouse needs a close check on the drainage to stop any snow-melted water flowing into the glasshouse.
“Every farmhouse for their crops and farm products shall need pest control and proper farmhouse management, especially during the winter season. Also, we all need to act fast against unexpected snowfalls or coldness which is quite often brought up by the abnormal climate.” said the official from the Horticulture and Special Gardening Department.
