Investigation to find out chemical odor substance at Banwol & Sihwa Industrial complex

On Dec. 26, KIHE(Kyeonggi-Do Institute of Health & Environment) released a report investigated on the chemical odor substance released from 10 factories of Banwol & Sihwa Industrial Complex.

Samples collected from the stack, process pipe, and every borders of the plant were been analyzed and it was known that 43% of the bad odors are released during the process of the work, which therefore, required to have an immediate measure on every doorways of the plant, windows and other sorts of the openings of the plant to block further release of the bad odors.

Rate of compound odor for dilution has increased more than twice as much in July compared to March and May. In July seasonally high in humidity and showing low air pressure, bad odors diffuse much faster and are accumulated in the air, which therefore leads us to have tailored countermeasure for each season.

Different materials at each industry were recognized to be the major causes of each stench; tri-methylamine, pressed oil, paints and plastic substances discharged from the hexamethylenetetramine process which is known to be the chemical industry, aldehyde compound and rawhide released from the manufacturing process, and hydrogen sulfide released from the technical industry.

“Most of the plants here are equipped with the Air Pollution Control Facility which is recognized to control odor as well, but this cannot help decreasing any odors at all which is identified by the sample analysis on the emitted odors of those plants.”, said one of the research engineer.

“We will do our utmost to develop the optimal odor prevention facility and odor reduction technology by continuing the current study on reducing the odors of each plant.”, said the person from the research unit.
