New bridge speeds up transportation

– “Hope we can improve the water quality of Paldang and cross this bridge daily.”, said the provincial governor Kim on Dec. 23rd at the Public Bridge Opening Ceremony.
– Bridge limited to compact cars lower than 2 m height under 30 km/hr driving speed for the weekend and public holidays. 

There was a great smile showing on the face of provincial governor Kim, Moon-soo.

Governor Kim, at 10AM on Dec. 23rd, participated the opening ceremony of Paldang Public Bridge, and shared words of comforts and pleasant feelings with residents at the ceremony.

“I always had to pass through the terrible traffic jam around Paldang which continues for approx. 13~18 km. It was just inevitable not to be late to come here.”, said the governor.

“Whole country would know that the residents of Paldang area such as Namyangju, Hanam, Gwangju, Gapyeong, and Yangpyeong have done a great job and a great effort to give a great gift to 23 million people living in the metropolitan areas. All of you with a generous mind should have a better traffic system.”, said the governor Kim expressing a great appreciation for the labors of the residents and other various agencies who exerted themselves for the reopening of the Paldang Public Bridge.

“Not only for the weekend and public holidays, if we maintain our Paldang water clean and give a better management system, we will be able to have this bridge available during weekdays too.”, Governor Kim added.

Upon this opening ceremony, Paldang Public Bridge (445 m length, 7.5 m width, 32 t weight limit) was closed in October 2004 for safety reasons is now reopened for compact cars during weekends and public holidays limited for 30 km speed and 2 m under-height cars and the road connecting Paldang dam and Paldang Bridge (5.35 km) in Baealmi-Dong, Hanam city was also established.

“Paldang dam itself is known to be a very significant safety facility for drinking water to be delivered to 23 million metropolitan citizens. People were reluctant to open the Paldang Public Bridge due to the safety reason on terrorism. However, with the help of National Intelligence Service examining any potential dangers of the bridge, we now have CCTVs, infrared rays monitors, and etc. which are needed for better security of the bridge and now the bridge available safe to the public.”, mentioned by the Governor Kim.

Together with the opening of the bridge Governor Kim also pledged himself to complete expanding the northern entry ramp of Paldang Bridge and to quickly open the road section of Gyeongchun highway to Paldang Bridge.

About 300 persons participated the opening ceremony including the Assemblymen Park, Gichun and Choi, Jaesung, and the Mayor of Hanam Kim, Hwangsik, Mayor of Namyangju Lee, Seokwoo, chairman of Gyeonggi assembly Yang, Taeheung, President of Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power Co. Lee, Jungjae and many other local residents.
