According to the relocation plan of USFK, the Gyeonggi government plans to boost development of the provision areas and bordering areas one by one. 84% of the area to be restored is part of the Northern Gyeonggi which is forecasted as promising grounds of facilities that were long waited by the Gyeonggi residents.

Starting on Oct. 2006, the government has invested about KRW 630 million to device a comprehensive plan and a year-on-year business program for the provision area and bordering areas (20 cities/localities, 158 eup/myeon/dong).

The first step of the development plan promoted by the Gyeonggi Research Institute, is to procure national expenditures of 2008 and to do this plans are promoted within the possible scope. Business operations requested by cities and localities will be reviewed and then will be submitted to the Ministry of Government Administration (MOGAHA) and Home Affairs after a public hearing in Jan. next year.

In addition, step 2 will be promoted starting from 2009 till 2017 and the development master plan will be revised and compensated every 3 years according to MOGAHA’s guide.

The MOGAHA’s promotion guide of the master plan is focused on projects to improve the residential conditions and expansion of social infra including expanding national and local roads and water supply. Other details include large scale budgeted projects such as city planning and building sites for government investment facilities and commune construction and also small-budgeted projects like local industrial complexes, citizen tourist sites and etc..

The government is focusing on returning development benefits to the local society and through requests and discussion with mayors and governors, each district will promote plans fixed for the characteristics of each locality.

At an economy revitalization meeting on Sept. 2006, provincial governor Kim, Moon-soo emphasized his ambitions on turning northern Gyeonggi to a golden place of many opportunities after the ‘Support Special Act for USFK Provision areas and Bordering Areas’ is enforced. He also added “Many enterprises will have to pay close attention to the movements of Gyeonggi which is rapidly gaining value.”
