Gyeonggi-do, top province for high job creation
– Out of the nationwide total of 295,000 jobs created in 2006, Gyeonggi-do covered 62.4% by creating 184,000 jobs –
Total jobs created in the Gyeonggi-do province last year summed up to 184,0000 jobs. This takes up 62.4% of the 295,000 new jobs created nationwide.
According to the National Statistical Office, employment within the Gyeonggi province last year increased 184,000 jobs (3.6%) compared to the employment in 2005, which totals up to 5,229,000 jobs. The fourth public election has pledged to create more jobs and this promise was kept.
Industries that have increased job opportunities include the service industry with 191,000 jobs and the construction industry with 11,000 new jobs. But the manufacturing industry and agriculture/forestry,fishing industry has decreased by 3,000 and 15,000 jobs each.
The manufacturing industry has especially plunged greatly at the beginning of the year but began to increase after May. 37,000 jobs were open by the fourth quarter and finally reached to 58,000 jobs in December, taking 22% of the total jobs created during Jan. 2007.
In addition, total unemployed reduced by 11,000 compared to 194,000 unemployed in the previous year. Unemployment rate has dropped 0.3% from last years 3.9% to 3.6% this year.
Unemployment rate of young people in Gyeonggi-do is at 6.9%, which is about 1.0% lower than the nationwide rate of 7.9%. The decline of the unemployment of young people, from 7.7% (first quarter) to 5.9% (fourth quarter), proves that the unemployment campaign promoted last year was successful.
