Gyeonggi Environmental Management Office is carrying out the project on Making Industrial Complex More Environmentally Beautiful as its core business this year, presenting the new paradigm on the overall environmental policy.
Currently, the number of industrial complexes in Gyeonggi-do is on the increase. It is, however, still unable to get out of the image of smokestack industries resulted from environmental pollution. Against this backdrop, it prompted the authorities to try to metamorphose the Banwol-Sihwa Industrial Complex that has been regarded as the poster child for Korea’s industrial complexes into far more environmental friendly one.
For starters, Gyeonggi designated Fridays as ‘The Day of Taking Care of Complexes Environment-wise’ in February, including various activities such as getting rid of illicit ad posters, picking up wastes along the roads and rivers nearby.
These movements for improving working and neighboring atmosphere in complexes will get into a full swing by planting trees and flowers around these areas during and after Arbor Day this year.
Painting-on-the-walls projects would be made initiatives by students from visual design department of Seoul Institute Of The Arts. The companies wanting to join can have their walls painted by shouldering the actual expenses.
Gyeonggi Environmental Management Office will actively support above these activities in cooperation with private organizations. On top of this, the companies evaluated excellent at improving environment will be rewarded the gubernatorial prize in the year end, including such incentives as recommendation priority for Green Grand Prize and designation as a self-regulating company.
