ATECH Company, a Japanese semiconductor protection material manufacturer, has decided to invest funds to set up a production base in Korea, and recently held a signing ceremony with Gyeonggi Province.

Gyeonggi Province announced,”ATECH Company will invest USD 3 million in the industrial complex dedicated for foreign investment companies located in Pyeongtaek City to establish a factory for the production of protective tape for operational LSI (Large Scale Integration) used in FPD.

On this day, Kim Moon-soo, Provincial Governor of Gyeonggi Province, signed an MOU (memorandum of understanding) with Norio Kotaka, CEO of ATECH Company, at 3: 50 p.m., related to the establishment of production facilities for protective tape for operational LSI (Large Scale Integration) used in FPD.

At the signing ceremony, Provincial Governor Kim Moon-soo promised, Gyeonggi Province is placing an emphasis on attracting foreign companies who are engaged in state-of-the-art industry, and will continuously improve the investment environment and provide administrative support so that foreign investment companies can achieve further success in their businesses.”

ATECH Company leads the protective tape market, with a global market share of 70%, and believes that establishing a base in Gyeonggi Province will enhance the competitiveness of their domestic client companies, and contribute to job creation, both directly and indirectly.
Operational LSI is used to project the screen on FPD (Flat Panel Display). The current method mounts the operational LSI for FPD on the film base, which then is connected around the panel. The tape that ATECH Company will produce will be used to protect this operational LSI.

ATECH Company established ATECH Company Korea in November 2006 to start their business in Korea, deciding on a final location after holding working-level consulting sessions and performing on-site due diligence with Gyeonggi Province.

ATECH Company, Japan, was first established in 1969 as a manufacturer of synthetic plastic products. The company is currently engaged in the semiconductor protection material business, as well as manufacturing disposable sanitary inspection equipment products for the bio, food, and medical fields, such as schale and beaker.

A Gyeonggi Province official said, “Since the 4th provincial governor came into office elected by the popular vote, Gyeonggi Province has attracted USD 3.56 million in investment from 13 foreign companies, and thanks to the recent Korea-U.S. FTA agreement, we expect further investment inflow from abroad in industries that supply parts and materials to domestic companies. Gyeonggi Province will continue to actively attract investment, and induce companies to invest.”
