Gyeonggi Province will maintain an “international sisterhood” with China on a continued basis.
In a telephone interview, broadcast on , a program on the Won-Buddhism Broadcasting Station (FM.89.7Mhz) on May 1st, Kim Moon-soo, Governor of Gyeonggi Province said “Gyeonggi Province has already set up a sisterhood relationship with Sandong, Liaoning, and Guangdong Provinces in China, and plans to start new sister province relationships with Tianjin, Beijing, and Hebei.”
Regarding his visit to China last month, Governor Kim said “My visit to China was derived from my belief that mutual exchange between Gyeonggi Province and China, the so-called “Pan-Balhae region”, is of the utmost importance”. He also emphasized the importance of building economic and cultural cooperation, saying “We should be having sisterhood relationships with several different regions. The more sisters we have, the better it is for everyone.”
During his visit to China, Governor Kim visited Sandong Province, with which Gyeonggi Province has a friendly relationship, and Dalian City, Liaoning Province, with which the Province has a sisterhood relationship, in order to strengthen mutual exchange and cooperation. As well, Governor Kim visited Beijing to establish a Nanotechnology Cooperation MOU with the National Center for Nano Science and Technology of China, and to meet Korean entrepreneurs to listen to their problems and discuss possible supportive measures.
Furthermore, regarding the 5+5 regional economic cooperative body, which has been in the spotlight recently. Governor Kim said, “I delivered a lecture to public officials in Sandong Province, and proposed building a 5+5 regional economic cooperative body. The Governor and secretaries reacted positively to my proposal,” adding “North Korea’s opening up and the resulting talks over economic cooperation and exchange with Pyeongyang, Gaeseong, Hwanghae Province, and Pyeongan Province will hold significant international importance.”
