The ‘5+5 regional economic cooperative body,’ referring to economic cooperation between 5 Korean cities and Provinces and 5 Chinese local governments includes Gyeonggi Province, Seoul, Incheon, South Chungcheong Province, and North Jeolla Province, five locations laid alongside the West Sea, and 5 Chinese Provinces, such as Beining, Tianjin, Hebei, Liaoning, and Sandong.
This proposal was made open during Governor Kim’s lecture, under the title “Ways for the Mutual Development of Gyeonggi Province and Sandong Province in a Globalized Era”, when he attended the Zeno Forum (a forum intended to envisage a strategy and vision for Shandong’s development by inviting socially renowned figures as lecturers) hosted by Shandong Province.
As for the Train-Ferry, which is being operated in Lushun Port (also known as Port Arthur), Dalian City, Liaoning Province, Governor Kim said “The Train-Ferry connecting Lushun and Yantai in Sandong Province runs across the Bohai Bay and, therefore, the distance is over 1,000 kilometers shorter than a ground trip via train,” adding “Economic feasibility is under consideration, as there is no technical issues.”
Governor Kim mentioned, “There have been a lot of discussions about the Train-Ferry, but none of these are working well” and “Our situation is different from that of Incheon, which is also pursuing the Train-Ferry, in that the railway infrastructure does not exist between Pyeongtaek Station and Pyeongtaek Port. This means that the government must connect the railways for the Train-Ferry operate successfully.”
Moving onto the 4th World Ceramic Biennale, Governor Kim mentioned that “Sorinamu, a ceramic wind-bell tree, and state-of-the-art ceramic works by 1,436 artists from 66 countries are exhibited in Icheon, the Royal Ceramics of the Joseon Dynasty and Turkish ceramics from the Topkapi Palace Museum in Turkey are being exhibited in Gwangju, while living-ware ceramics and a hands-on ceramics experience are being offered in Yeoju” and “Thanks to the Biennale’s diversity in different venues, it will definitely offer great value to family visitors.”
Governor Kim continued promoting the Ceramic Biennale, saying “As the exhibition is held in three venues simultaneously, it is hard to see everything in one day” and “One ticket gives access to all venues, so arrange your time efficiently to make the best of the Biennale.”
He also added “Type ‘Ceramics’ into a search engine and you will find a wealth of information” and that all related information can be found on the Gyeonggi Province website.
