At the 2-day Gyeonggi Best Product Exhibition???¿Expanded exchange between Korea and ASEAN expected
Gyeonggi Province announced on June 3 that KRW 22 billion worth of contracts were signed at the “2007 Gyeonggi Best Product Exhibition,” which was held in Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, for 2 days from May 30th to 31st.
The Exhibition, which was participated in by 46 SMEs in Gyeonggi Province, provided one-to-one matched trade meetings between the SMEs and 500 buyers in the ASEAN region, who were arranged in advance at the KOTRA Kuala Lumpur Trade Hall from March.
The opening ceremony of the Exhibition on May 30th was joined by Ambassador of Korea to Malaysia Sohn Sang-ha, Head of the KOTRA Asia Pacific Region Ryu Jong-hyeon, Deputy Minister of International Trade and Industry YB. Dato’ Haji Ahmad Husni Bin Mohd. Hanadzlah, and Mayor of Kuala Lumpur Datuk Abdul Hakim Borhan.
The opening ceremony was held amongst enthusiastic media coverage by about 30 representatives of the press, including renowned local daily newspapers such as NST, and 5 broadcasting stations, including Malaysian national broadcasting stations TV1 and TV2.
Jeon Tae-heon, Director of Economic Investment Management and leader of Gyeonggi Province delegates said, “We met Malaysian government officials on June 1 to exchange in-depth opinions on ways to expand exchange between the Gyeonggi Province and Malaysia in diverse sectors such as commerce and investment, once the Korea-ASEAN FTA becomes effective.”
A Gyeonggi Province official in the International Commerce Department stated, “This Exhibition is meaningful not only for its success, but also for the fact that it will contribute considerably to increasing commerce in the ASEAN market, once the Korea-ASEAN FTA comes into effect.”
Gyeonggi Province has held the Gyeonggi Best Product Exhibition in Malaysia twice before, in 2003 and 2005, to assist SMEs in the province to penetrate into the Southeast Asian market, and thus far has succeeded in landing KRW 52 billion worth of contracts
