Gyeonggi Province plans to build medical facilities in Gwanggyo New City, and attract hotels to land transferred by the U.S. Military

Gyeonggi Province is expected to launch diverse marketing strategies to attract foreign capital in the manufacturing and tourism fields.
On July 25th, Gyeonggi Province held a meeting of about 40 representatives, including Kim Moon-soo, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, Im Tae-hee, member of the National Assembly (Bundang Eul District, Grand National Party), Baek Ho-yeol, Deputy General Manager of the Korea Development Bank, Lee Hak-su, Director of the Investment Attraction Center, and Chang In-cheong, Vice Chairman of Gyeonggi-do Association of Foreign-Invested Companies, under the agenda of seeking ways to vitalize the economy and attract investment in each field.

At the meeting, representatives discussed ways to attract investments in manufacturing fields such as semiconductors in Hwaseong, Pyeongtaek, and Yongin, LCD in Paju and Pyeongtaek, and automobiles in Hwaseong and Pyeongtaek.
Related to the goal of attracting investment in cutting-edge industries, Governor Kim said, “Although we have reached an understanding with the Prime Minister of Korea to give priority to housing units that will be built near the factories of large companies, and to provide land at lower costs for that purpose, we are still waiting for approval from the Ministry of Construction and Transportation. I will strive to make sure that large companies will not have to deal with increasing labor costs due to high housing prices.”

In addition, representatives sought ways to create a tourism belt in the West Sea area including Goyang, Siheung, and An-san, as well as to attract investment for theme parks, hotels, and resorts in the Northern regions such as Pocheon, Dongducheon, and the eastern regions including Gapyeong, Hanam, and Namyangju, where the U.S. military is scheduled to return land.
Governor Kim continued to say, “There are people who have suggested we designate the 112 million square meter-wide Saemangeum and Sihwa complex for farming purposes, even when there aren’t any people who wish to farm. This doesn’t make sense, because from an economic perspective, we need to turn the land into a tourism district with leisure facilities and theme parks.”

The participants at the meeting pledged to work to attract foreign capital to the cultural content industries, including games, animation, movies, and broadcasting in Seong-nam, Goyang, and Bucheon, and to the medical and biotechnology-related fields, including Seongnam medi-bio valley, Pangyo research complex, and Gwanggyo city support facilities.

Moreover, the Province plans to attract R&D centers in Gwacheon (Knowledge & Information Town), Hwaseong (Songsan Green City), Siheung, and Ansan.
To this end, Gyeonggi Province will dispatch a large number of delegates led by Governor Kim to the Americas in October, for the purpose of attracting foreign investment. The team will hold investor relations on the investment climate of Gyeonggi Province, while inviting commercial attaches from major trading partners.

Furthermore, the Province will exert the maximum possible effort to attract foreign capital in tourism development, cutting-edge manufacturing, and environmental technology industries by dispatching delegates to countries around the world.
