Volunteers engaged in providing service at welfare centers and other venues through the “Noblesse Oblige Agreement”

Some top professionals in the areas of law, medicine, and culture in Gyeonggi Province are joining a social movement to vitalize volunteerism.

The Gyeonggi Volunteer Center (Director: Lee Jae-hoon) announced on the 27th that the province will be holding a ceremony to mark the signing of the “Noblesse Oblige Agreement Joined by 1,365 Professionals” at the briefing room at 11 a.m. on the 28th. The ceremony will be held with 10 VIPs in attendance, including President Yoon Chang-gyeum of Gyeonggi-do Medical Association, President Nam Gung-won of Gyeonggi Art Unison, and President Jo Young-jin of the Suwon Bar Association.

“Noblesse Oblige Agreement Joined by 1,365 Professionals” was developed after the Domestic Volunteer Service Act was signed into law, and has the aim of realizing the true meaning of “Noblesse Oblige”, a French expression that refers to the obligation of those in positions of wealth and power to help the less fortunate.

Together with the Gyeonggi Volunteer Center, signatories to the Agreement will plan volunteer activities for the Noblesse Oblige movement, while engaging in volunteer work for welfare centers and other places in need within the province.

The signatories will also make full of their professional expertise, providing special lectures on legal issues, performing medical diagnoses for marginalized individuals such as the homeless and foreign workers, holding free cultural performances, and collaborating with enterprises to provide financial support to patients suffering from rare diseases.

In tandem with these efforts, the Gyeonggi Volunteer Center will launch the “Gyeonggi Volunteer Group of Noblesse Professionals,” in order to pursue continuous volunteer activities.

A Gyeonggi Province official stated, “By taking this opportunity to sign a pledge with top professionals from the legal, medical, and cultural sectors, we expect that other professionals will join in our efforts.”

As of today, 955 people have pledged to take the lead in volunteer work. Gyeonggi Province will be continuously holding pledging ceremonies until 1,365 volunteers from the professional classes have been recruited, and will engage in volunteer activities 365 days a year, by developing volunteer service programs and implementing training regarding these programs, and by developing plans for volunteer service activities in the first half and the second half of the year, respectively.
