Spring is in the air, and tender young buds are appearing everywhere. To welcome the new season, Gyeonggi Province invites everyone to the 2008 Gyeonggi Province Cherry Blossom Festival!

Gyeonggi Province will open the Cherry Blossom Tunnel, located near Paldal Mountain, as well as the provincial government complex, to the public from April 11 to April 17, for the 2008 Gyeonggi Province Cherry Blossom Festival. Visitors can enjoy spectacular views, immerse themselves in the sweet smell of spring, and participate in a wide range of cultural activities and a bazaar.

With the goal of making this year’s festival a truly enjoyable gathering for all, Gyeonggi Province has prepared a diverse range of program events including artistic performances, exhibitions, sampling parties for agricultural products, and a bazaar as well as the special open radio program, “Kim Seung-hyun and Huh Su-gyeong’s ‘I love the Radio'”, which will be broadcast on SDS on April 13.

The province will also provide numerous facilities such as rest areas and fountains, to ensure visitor convenience. For nighttime picnickers, the province has installed outdoor lighting at some of the most spectacular spots and offers enchanting night views.

This year marks the 22nd anniversary of the Gyeonggi Province Cherry Blossom Festival. The most popular springtime festival in the province, it has been a venue for residents to celebrate springtime since its inception. Last year’s festival included a wide range of auxiliary events, including traditional performances, free medical check-ups, sampling parties for agricultural products, the Gyeonggi Province PR center, and a bazaar.

A festival organizer said, “This festival aims to promote the Gyeonggi provincial government complex as a more welcoming place. I hope that local residents will visit the festival site and experience the dynamism of Gyeonggi Province, which is opening the doors to Korea’s future. As one of the organizers who have prepared for this festival for a long time, I would like to ask everyone to come and enjoy these diverse events.”
