Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-Soo was recently visited by Vermont Governor James H. Douglas at the Governor’s office in the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex. During the meeting, which took place on the morning of October 23, 2009, the two governors discussed economic exchanges between Gyeonggi and Vermont.

Governor Douglas was visiting Korea to conclude a contract for establishing a cell therapy plant and technology transfer between AnC Bio Holdings (Representative Lee Ik-Whan), a foreign-invested business of Gyeonggi Province, and a stem cell medicine manufacturer located in the Pyeongtaek Eoyeon-Hansan foreign-exclusive industrial complex, at the Pyeongtaek Plant of AnC Bio Holdings.

According to a spokesperson for AnC Bio Holdings, this project is being operated through a partnership between the local joint venture company, AnC Bio Vermont, and the Vermont State Government. AnC Bio Holdings will establish the stem cell pharmaceutical plant and transfer related technologies, AnC Bio Vermont will operate the project, and the Vermont State Government will attract investors through EB-5, the investment immigration program.

Governor Kim said, “It is extremely meaningful that the high technology of a foreign-invested business in Gyeonggi Province is being exported to the US. I expect that further economic partnerships between Gyeonggi Province and Vermont State will be facilitated through the successful contracting of this project.”
