DMZ Regular Forum opened on April 20th

Gyeonggi Province held the first 2010 DMZ Regular Forum in the Gyeonggi Small & Medium Business Center on April 20th to review the long-term administration of the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ) as well as its utilization policy and to collect opinions from diverse parties regarding Peace-Eco Park operation policies.

Experts in planning, culture and the environment – together with Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon–Soo – gathered to share opinions on the development of the DMZas an area of security, peace and leisure.

Kim Hyun, a team manager with the Gyeonggi Tourism Organization, cited remarks by Harvard professor Edward Wilson to the effect that ¢®¡Æ[the] DMZ is comparable to the sum of the Gettysburg National Military Park and Yellowstone National Park in the U.S.,¢®¡¾ and added that ¢®¡ÆDMZ development should proceed under the concepts of peace, ecology and sustainability.¢®¡¾

Participants concurred regarding the necessity of sharing development visions among interested parties with the recognition that the DMZ is one of the world’s foremost protected trans-boundary areas.
