Gyeonggi Province holds conference in the labor-management relations of foreign-invested companies.
Foreign-invested companies within Gyeonggi Province are working the provincial government for the elimination of labor disputes.
The province held a round-table conference with representatives of labor and management on May 19th (Wednesday) in order to discuss ways in which to prevent labor-management conflicts. Discussions also covered approaches for creating superior workplaces, resolving unemployment issues, amending labor law and effectively addressing labor environment changes.
During the conference, approximately 30 representatives including labor union heads, human resource managers, labor officials and experts as well as representatives of the Federation of Korean Trade Unions and the Korea Employers Federation participated. Thirteen companies possessing labor unions out of 77 foreign-invested enterprises which have entered MOUs with Gyeonggi Province discussed business environment improvement and leading cases of labor-management relations in addition to preferential policies for long-term employees in small and medium-sized enterprises and for management-union cooperation in foreign-invested operations.
Describing the conference, a provincial official said, “In the absence of capital boundaries, production and employment expansion through sound investment from overseas is very important. We held this conference to create opportunities for employers and employees to advance management-union relations through conscientious cooperation regardless of nationality.”
The province emphasized that the role of foreign-invested companies is highly important since overseas employment influences are increasing, and asked for autonomy, accountability and diligent cooperation.
In addition, the province reaffirmed its active support for improving the quality of culture and exchange for foreign-invested companies so as to advance union-management culture. To this end, language education for the staff of foreign-invested companies, union-management moderation, education and training subsidies as well as infrastructure improvement will all be propelled through discussion and cooperation.
