Domestic Documentary Writers’ Production Support

 

The DMZ Korean International Documentary Festival, which drew attention by introducing superb films with internationally hot issues in 2009, is calling for the submission of long and short documentaries by June 25.

 

At the same time, the call for ‘DMZ DOCS production support’ entries for domestic documentary writers will run until July 23.

 

The DMZ Korean International Documentary Festival, which is now in its 2nd year, increased the number of screenings up to 70 in order to introduce more diverse pieces, and will particularly on increasing the screening opportunities for Korean documentaries.

 

Consequently, while a Korean competition segment has been added to the competition portion, production supporting business for domestic documentary writers will run in parallel, which is expected to be an effective activator in the Korean documentary production field.

 

For a grand prize of the competition portion, documentaries longer than 40 minutes and completed after January 1, 2009,  can be submitted on various subjects to boost social interest in peace, life and communication; especially for the grand prize in the Korean competition segment, films can be submitted regardless of length.

 

In terms of awards, an international competition grand prize of KRW 15 million, special judicial prize of KRW 7 million, best Korean documentary prize of KRW 7 million, and an audience prize of KRW 3 million will be awarded.

 

For DMZ DOCS production, differential supports will be given according to the completion and scale of the films which comply with the subject the film festival and are long domestic documentary projects.

 

In addition, supports are possible for each step from scenario development throughout to pre-production and post-production, and this is expected to draw considerable attention from many film directors and producers planning and producing documentaries.

 

For projects submitted by this July 23, production support and supporting funds will be determined through an open pitch during the film festival and after the first round of judgement. Films selected for production support will be screened during the closing ceremony of the film festival on September 13, and completed films can be viewed during the film festival of 2011.

 

Kang Seok Phil, an official of the DMZ Korean International Documentary Festival, said, ” I hope the DMZ DOCS production-supporting projects will prove helpful, even in part, in the domestic documentary production field, and I expect the submission of diverse films made in a sincere and pionerring spirit.”

The second DMZ Korean International Documentary Festival hosted by Gyeonggi Province and Paju City and supported by the Gyeonggi Performing & Film Commission opens on the subject of ‘communication and coexistence’ around the Gyeonggi Province Paju Book City from Septermber 9 till 13.
