Gyeonggi’s Traditional Liquor: Korea’s Best! Crimson Glory Vine Liquor, made in Paju City, has been awarded the grand prize.

The 2010 National Liquor Show, which took place from September 30th to October 2nd under the auspices of the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MIFAFF), was held to strengthen the competitiveness of traditional liquors and to improve their quality. Gyeonggi Province’s traditional liquor has been Korea’s best liquor 2 years in a row.

The 2010 National Liquor Show, which took place from September 30th to October 2nd under the auspices of the Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries (MIFAFF), was held strengthen the competitiveness of traditional liquors and to improve their quality. Gyeonggi Province has placed first at this event two years in a row.

At the show, 93 companies, which had passed local preliminaries, presented 107 products that were classified into 7 categories: unrefined rice liquor, sterilized rice liquor, medicinal liquor, refined rice liquor, fruit liquor, distilled spirits, hard liquor and others. The best liquor was selected after consultations with experts.

Gyeonggi Province received 6 points in total with the grand prix (2 points), the first prize (1 point), the participation prize (2 points) and the good design prize (1 point). The province accounted for 19% of 31 participating companies and placed first two years in a row.

Crimson Glory Vine Liquor made by Sam Meoru Farm in Paju City, Hwayo 41 made by Hwayo Co. inYeoju County, and Nomi made by Naechon Brewery Co. in Pocheon City placed first in the categories of fruit liquor, distilled spirits and medicinal and refined liquor, respectively.

Baesangmyun Brewery’s sterilized rice liquor and Hanju Liquor’s spirituous liquor won the participation prizes, and Hwayo Co. won the good design prize. Gyeonggi Province’s prize winners became eligible for support from MIFAFF and can participate in promotional events and overseas exhibitions.

“Our province placed first in National High-End Liquor Show last year and in National Makgeolli Show held to celebrate the Korean team’s advancement into the quarterfinals this year. Once again, we’ve received this honor,” said Lee Gwan-Gyoo, head of the Agro-Food Industry Team. He added, “It has been proved that Gyeonggi Province’s traditional liquors are superior, and we’ll do our best to establish our liquors as the nation’s best brands.”
