The Gyeonggi Provincial Government opened 40 farmers markets in 17 cities and counties where vegetables and seasoning materials for kimchi are sold so that citizens can prepare kimchi economically and farmers can open up new markets. The markets opened in the new annex of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex, the National Agricultural Cooperative Federation in Suwon, the Seoul Horse Racing Park, Pyeongtaek City Hall and in other locations.

A provincial officer said: “The markets help farmers who have been negatively affected by climate change to open up new markets while easing the financial burden on consumers. We have fixed the sales goal at KRW 5 billion (approximately USD 5 million).”

In addition, the provincial government plans to arrange direct deals between farmers and cities, counties, police stations and their affiliated organizations from November 16 to 31. More than 100 participants are projected, and these transactions are expected to provide farmers with practical sales assistance.

There will be a special on kimchi materials at the Baro Market located in the Seoul Racing Horse Park every Wednesday and Thursday between November 17 and December 2. The provincial government will sell vegetables purchased from local producers at a discount of 10 to 30%.

Also, on the online market kgfarm.gg.go.kr, a special offer is available. Online consumers who buy kimchi materials through the website can receive a discount of KRW 5,000 and earn a Cash Back Bonus award of up to 2,000 points. The provincial government plans to sell agricultural products produced in the province through GS Shopping Mall, G Market, Naver Shopping and Hyundai Home Shopping.

Additionally, a special market will held every Saturday in the government complex with kimchi materials that are 10 to 20% cheaper than the market price (inquiries: Department of Produce Distribution 8008-4440).
