According to Yonhap News,
KCC Corporation will invest KRW 2 trillion to build high-technology industrial facilities to produce components of LEDs and solar cells in Anseong, Gyeonggi Province.
Gyeonggi province and KCC signed ‘a contract to move into Anseong 4 General Industrial Complex and purchase land’ in the presence of Gyeonggi Governor Kim Moon-soo, CEO Jeong Mong-ik of KCC, and Anseong Mayor Hwang Eun-seong at the Provincial office on March 15th.
Under the contract, KCC bought the industrial site of 360,000M2 within Anseong 4 Industrial Complex, Yangbyeong-ri, Miyang-myeon, Anseong City. The site is about half the area of the total Anseong 4 Industrial Complex minus green areas and public sites.
KCC plans to inject KRW 2 trillion to build a factory on the building area of 220,000M2 by 2015 to produce sapphire base plates for LEDs (150,000 units per month, 30% of the global market share) and silicon base plates for solar cells (1.6GW per year, 5% of the global market share).
The Province said that the new KCC factory with estimated annual sales of KRW 1.8 trillion will boost the regional economy and create about 3,000 jobs in Anseong.
An official said “Mayor Kim visited KCC’s business establishment in Yeoju several times from late last year to convince the company to make investment in Gyeonggi, and Anseong City promised full administrative support to help attract investment from KCC.”
