Eco Tourism – Romantic Gapyeong Subway Trip

Gapyeong County will present a new package tour at the end of the month in a bid to renew its image and stimulate the local economy. Those who embark on the tour can visit a number of tourist attractions by subway.

The local government has worked closely with Korail to encourage eco tourism in the area. The thirty-first of March marks the one-hundredth day since the opening of the Gyeongchun Double Track Railway. The “Romantic Gapyeong Subway Trip” service will be launched on this day to celebrate the event.

There are two options: weekend and weekday tours. Weekday tours depart from Seoul every Tuesday and Thursday. The tours will start at Cheongpyeong Station or Gapyeong Station, followed by visits to the Garden of Morning Calm at the foot of Chungnyeongsan Mountain, Yeongyang Pine Nut Village, Cheongpyeong Lake Excursion Ship, and Ehwawon Garden, the home of many species of plants and trees from East and West.

The rates are KRW 27,600 for adults and KRW 22,100 for children per day. Prices include entrance, tolls, and meals.

There are two weekend tours, each available on Saturday and Sunday. The A course consists of camping on Jazz Island, a visit to Jaraseom Island, which is famous for movies and television shoots, and a trip to downtown Gapyeong. The tour continues to Petite France and includes a trip on the Chungpyung Ferry. The B course covers Namiseom Island, where Winter Sonata was filmed, and also visits Petite France and Jaraseom Island.

Weekend tours A and B cost KRW 24,000 and KRW 26,000 for adults, respectively, and KRW 17,100 for children.

The local government will dispatch tour guides for important tourist attractions from March 31st, the day when the “Romantic Gapyeong Subway Trip” takes off.

The local government has successfully introduced the “Romantic Gapyeong Train,” a tour developed in collaboration with Korail last December. The coming “Romantic Gapyeong Subway Trip” will usher in an era of ten million tourists annually.
