Gyeonggi Province Embarks on Mission to Attract North American Investment and Pioneer Overseas Markets to Create New Jobs and Boost the Economy

– Conclusion of five investment 
MOUs amounting to USD 210 million 

– Agreement to employ native English speakers as language instructors, boost youth exchange programs, and support the exchange of human resources

– Creating a pro-Korean environment by supporting future Korean leaders, Korean Societies, and CFR

– Building bridges between Korean fabric manufacturers and overseas markets; establish a Gyeonggi Textile Center in LA

– Establishing a base for entry into the North American apparel market; open Global Medical Business Center in LA

The North American Investment and Trade Delegation, led by Gyeonggi Province Governor Kim Moon-soo, is planning an eight-day expedition from April 17 to 24 to attract new investment and open doors to overseas markets. 

The local government delegation aims to establish a base in the North American region in order to penetrate the apparel market and strengthen inter-regional ties by visiting Vancouver, New York, Detroit, and Los Angeles among other important destinations.

The schedule will include the inking of agreements worth a combined total of USD 210 million with five major companies from Canada and the United States.

The delegation will also visit Canada’s British Colombia, a sister province, to discuss the employment of native English speakers, youth exchange programs, and other human resource exchange programs with British ColombiaPremier Christy Clark. 

Governor Kim Moon-soo will discuss improving Korea’s image and future relations between the USA and Korea with specialists of the Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), and attend a banquet hosted by America’s pro-Korean group, the Korean Society, where he will give a speech on “Korea’s Role in the Global Age” and discuss international issues. The delegation will also participate in the opening of the Global Medicine Business Center (GMBC) in LA, which is expected to become a trade hub for apparel products, and host a medical tourism promotion campaign for the province in New York and LA.

The government has plans to build an LA-Gyeonggi Textile Center to promote northern Gyeonggi’s key industry, textiles. It will serve as a bridge between the US market and local manufacturers, and secure export routes once the Korea-US FTA policies have been fully implemented.

Governor Kim Moon-soo will visit Glendale, California, to discuss collaboration between the Gyeonggi English Village and the Glendale Department of Education and to secure advanced English education programs.

Gyeonggi Province will become a better province on the strength of his efforts.”
