Families from Different Ethnic Backgrounds Come Together to Sing

– Gyeonggi Province’s first multicultural family choral competition
– Registration by April 27; Preliminaries on May 14

In response to heightened public interest in singing, Gyeonggi Province will host the nation’s first choral competition this May to celebrate Family Month and Together Day.

On May 29, the First National Multi-Cultural Family Choral Competition will be held at the Gyeonggi Arts Center at 2pm. Multicultural families from all over the nation are welcome to attend the event.

Contestants must be part of a family unit that includes immigrants by marriage, spouses, parents, and children. A team can be either a solo performer or comprised of up to five people. Please note that families which include professional singers will not be permitted to take part as contestants. The preliminaries will be held at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Complex on May 14 (Saturday). Those who cannot attend in person may send a video instead.

The aim of the contest is to strengthen ties between family members. Teams that include three generations, i.e., parent(s) – immigrant – offspring, will receive a five-point advantage. The eleven teams that make it to the finals will be given certificates from the Governor of Gyeonggi Province along with prize money of up to KRW 2 million.

Those wishing to attend this exciting event should visit the registration desk before April 27 and submit their immigration papers to prove their family status, or register by fax, email or mail. The address is 43-1, Gyo-dong, Paldal-gu, Suwon City, Gyeonggi Province, at the Multi Culture Federation.
