Jeongok Prehistoric Museum opened recently, exhibiting various stone tools excavated at the village of Jeongok in Gyeonggi Province.
They were found back in 1978, proving the existence of prehistoric civilizations on the Korean peninsula.
These symmetrical teardrop-shaped hand axes are distinctive products of the Lower Paleolithic era of the Stone Age, which dates back around 300-thousand years ago.
[Interview : Kim Jong-heon, Curator] “In this museum, visitors can easily see how humans have evolved from prehistoric times to now.”
An artificial fire, primitive hut, cave paintings, and three-dimensional images help the museum visitors vividly experience lives of early humans here in Korea.
[Interview : Kim Moon-soo, Governor of Gyeonggi Province] “I wish this museum can be a place for art, education, and science, where young people come and learn about history, and dream of the future.”
In addition to the museum’s opening, this year’s “Paleolithic Age Festival” is also coming soon, starting from May 4th to the 8th in the same village.
Visitors to both locations can enjoy a journey into the past, while reflecting on how humans have evolved over hundreds of thousands of years.
