“The 31st Day of the Disabled” with Events Province-wide
A wide variety of festive events will take place before, during and after the 31st Day of the Disabled throughout Gyeonggi Province.
The Gyeonggi Province Disabled Welfare Association will host the 31st Day of the Disabled celebration at the Gyeonggi Province Labor Complex at 11:00 a.m. on April 20. Six hundred members from thirteen different welfare groups will come together to celebrate the annual event.
Provincial Vice-Governor You Yeon-chae will be among those who join the celebration, during which three winners are to be honored with 10th Gyeonggi Province Courageous People Awards. Thirteen model citizens and contributors to the betterment of welfare for the disabled will receive the governor’s commendation for their excellent achievements.
The recipients of the 2011 Courageous People Award include Lee Jin-won (40, visually impaired), for attending eight international soccer competitions including the 13th Beiijing Paralympics Games; Lee Jong-su (68, heart defect), for setting an excellent example as a superb leader in his hometown by promoting homeland security; and Jo In-seon (63, visually impaired), for his contribution to the founding of the Association for the Visually Impaired in the northern part of Gyeonggi Province as well as for his activities as the vice-chairman of Korea Blind Union in promoting sports for the visually impaired.
The Gyeonggi Province Festival for the Disabled will be held at the Suwon Sports Complex on April 21, followed by the Gyeonggi Province Welfare Center’s 7th Anniversary Symposium on April 22, while on April 23 a Sign Language Competition will be held at the Yangpyeong-gun Community Center. Yongin will host a Yutnori game and a singing competition at its Festival for the Visually Impaired on April 28. Finally, the last day of April will see the hosting of an Informatization Competition for disabled teenagers.
Suwon City and the thirtyother local governments in the province have prepared diverse celebrations, field days, singing competitions, participatory programs, concerts, and talent shows, which together are expected to attract around 32,000 Gyeonggi Province residents.
