Gyeonggi Province will soon welcome the world to the 2011 Korea International Boat Show, which will take place in Jeongok Marina of Hwaseong City and Tando Port of Ansan City for five whole days from June 8 to 12. Plenty of programs will be available at Jeongok Marina, offering visitors a chance to try their hand at various water sports. The marina is also close to various tourist attractions, making the location all the more desirable for visitors seeking more than just a boat show as a getaway.
Kayaks, canoes, dinghy yachts, bumper boats, water bicycles, land and water boats, and more await visitors to the show. Ships Sea World and Badanuri will offer ferry rides to Jebu Island twice a day. Surfboard, pedal boats, and rideable water air balloons will be available throughout the show for adventurous types.
There are also plenty of performances to enjoy. The marine band and guard of honor will put on a parade, and a Sea Load parade filled with fun characters will be staged. Hwaseong City will exhibit national photography contest entries from individuals and photography gatherings, and during the weekend balloon and mime artists will perform for the crowd.
Outside on the open stage B-boys, magicians, and fusion musicians will stage astounding performances.
A boat show official said, “The programs are scheduled to fit the audiences’ movements, and different programs are prepared each day depending on the anticipated age range of the audience.” Some of the more popular programs can be booked online or in advance at the event. Jeong Tae-heon, Gyeonggi’s Vice Governor for Economy & Investment and Director of the Korea International Boat Show, remarked, “We have focused on presenting popular programs by adding more amenities such as land and water boats and surfboards. I hope everyone gets a taste of the exciting world of water sports.”
There are plenty of places to visit in Hwaseong besides the boat show.
Jebu Island (Jebu-ri, Seosin-myeon, Hwaseong) is well known for its “Moses Miracle.” A path between the nearby shore and the island appears twice a day during low tide. The small island welcomes beach-goers to its twelve kilometers of shoreline. At the end of the sandy beach are three tall boulders standing tall. The locals call them the “candleholder rocks”.
Gungpyeong Shore (Gungpyeong-ri, Seosin-myeon, Hwaseong) is a sandy beach secluded by groves of beach pines and famous for its beautiful sunset view. There are fishing grounds and mudflats where you can gather crabs and clams. Why not try riding across the mudflats on a specially built sleigh?
Uri Botanic Garden (179-20 Maegok-ri, Paltan-myeon, Hwaseong) is home to various species of endangered local flowers as well as over 1,000 flower bushes native to the Korean peninsula on a lot covering 110,692¡×©ø. Greenhouses, a learning center, and groves cover the area, and there is a place where visitors can make souvenir soap, traditional paper, or folk art.
The Hanae Thema Park (Jeongok-ri, Seosin-myeon, Hwaseong) provides plenty of things to see, eat, buy, enjoy, and think about. The wild flower garden is a beautiful sight to behold. Visit the stone museum, the insect museum, the challenge park, the survival playground, or participate in the orienteering course. Zip wire down 170 meters, dip your feet in salt water, enjoy a snack from the eatery market, browse the local china wares, or visit the research facility before going to bed at the on-the-spot lodge. All the facilities are brand new and well maintained.
The Hwaseong Ostrich Safari (san 74, Dokjeong-ri, Jangan-myeon, Hwaseong) covers 100,000 square meters. Ostriches run free in the vast field within the grounds of the safari park, and there are 500 animals that are trained to carry people. You can also feed the animals or take a ride on a pony.
As well as the attractions mentioned above, there is the dinosaur egg fossil ground, insect farm of Hwaseong, Wonpyeong Herbal Park, Baekmiri Village, Jeam-ri March First Movement Martyrdom Hall, Gukhwa Island, Ippa Island, and Yongjusa Temple. For more information, call +82-31-369-2842
