Gyeonggi Province will host the Korea Serious Game Festival 2011 from October 7 to 9

Education, exercise, and simulation come together in one place for a multifaceted entertainment event.

Gyeonggi Province and Seongnam City announced on June 15 that they will be hosting the ‘Korea Serious Game Festival 2011’ in Seongnam City Hall for three days from October 7 to 10.

The third Korea Serious Game Festival will consist of an exhibition center, experience center, seminar center, business support center, and competition room.

Games for all ages and groups will be played at the exhibition, including anti-Alzheimer games for senior citizens, along with seminars for teachers, welfare workers, and game developers. There will be business opportunities at the product presentation section for participating companies.

School children from all over Seongnam will be invited to test functional games as tools for education.

Schools, social welfare facilities, and isolated areas will be visited by the Game Bus, and a smart phone UCC contest for Functional Game Summer School as well as a poster contest on preventing game addiction will be held.

Additional events include family game competitions, documentary filming, an animation theatre, a 3D theatre, and Nanta performances. There will be a sale of used games on the side.

A government official stated, “Functional games were specifically designed to make the learning experience more memorable and entertaining. It will enhance the industry’s competitive edge and contribute to the local economy.”

The Korea Serious Game Festival 2011, hosted by the Gyeonggi Digital Contents Agency and the Seongnam Industry Promotion Agency, is planning to recruit agents and participants beginning in June.
