Goyang Expands Overseas Korean Network for Synergy Effect
(2011.06.17)
Goyang City (Mayor Choi Seong) and the Overseas Korean Association’s efforts to expand areas in terms of economy, culture, art, and tourism have finally gained momentum.
Goyang City has been keen to establish an international trade and cooperation system for the past few years, with a view to promoting, marketing, and attracting investment from Europe, the Americas, China (Shanghai), and Japan.
Goyang is preparing a full-scale shopping tourism, medical tourism, and international specialty goods festival known as the Goyang Lake Park Art Festiva,l as well as home-stay programs for overseas Koreans and residents of sister cities, during the National Field Day this coming October 6 to 12.
Goyang was eager to promote these newly established programs during the 2011 World Korean Community Leaders Convention (June 14-17).
Participants of the event included three hundred leaders of local Korean communities from eighty-one nations. They got together to discuss the latest events and learn about pending issues around the world. Goyang dispatched a team of promoters to the meeting venue (Seoul Sheraton Grande Walker Hill Hotel, Hwaseong La Vie D’or Resort & Country Club) headed by the Mayor of Goyang to promote the upcoming National Field Day and Goyang.
The Korean Association Chairman and Goyang City Mayor discussed methods of establishing a cooperative system on the spot, earning widespread support from other attendees.
Goyang has already established MOUs with the Korean Association of Berlin, Germany, (Chairman Jeong Jeong-su) and Inland Korean Association (Chairman Paul Song) for mutual benefit on June 15.
Thanks to their efforts, Goyang was able to sign its third contract with an overseas Korean association, the last one being with the Korean Residents Society in the UK (Chairman Park Yeong-geun) this May 23. This will further enhance the city’s international network.
An anonymous Goyang City official stated that, “We will continue to build up our overseas network with Koreans and discuss further actions to create synergy effects.”
