G Food Show 2011 being held in conjunction with the Organic World Congress

Gyeonggi Province’s largest and most popular G Food Show for safe and superior food will be held in conjunction with the 2011Organic World Congress.
According to Gyeonggi Province’s official announcement on August 11th, the G Food Show will commence on September 28 and run until October 2 in Namyangju along with the 17th Organic World Congress, the first event of its kind in KOrea. Safe and superior produce, traditional foods, and organic foods that have received G-Mark certification will be introduced in Korea to heighten awareness of the brand.
Taking place at the Sports and Culture Center in Namyangju, this year’s G Food Show will not only feature foods that have been certified by Gyeonggi Province but will also traditional wines, rice cakes, and other traditional foods. Look for school meal companies, local produce brands, and “back to nature” movement-related booths. There will be 125 companies at the event.
The G-Mark Promotion Hall will introduce specially approved cultivators and their best-selling products. In the ten years since the launch of the certification program, G-Mark products have generated sales of more than KRW 1 trillion. Policy details about the continuously expanding G-Mark brand will be provided at the event.
Makgeolli (rice wine), rice cakes, rice noodles, and other traditional processed foods will be displayed at the G Food Dimibang. Focusing on popular export food items, there will be a corner where visitors can try making traditional foods. Korean drama fans will be delighted to see all the foods from their favorite television shows.
The “Generation Zone” focuses on passing a healthy diet to younger generations by introducing Gyeonggi Province’s school meals program. In the “Green Zone,” visitors will see a collection of G-Mark certified brands as well as other brands supported by the Gyeonggi Provincial Government.
In the Urban Agriculture Center one will see models of rooftop gardens, vegetable gardens, kitchen gardens, and indoor water culturing, along with other forms of urban gardening.
This year¡¯s event, held in conjunction with the Organic World Congress, will promote an eco-friendly lifestyle. There will be five theme-based events every day of the festival under the overall theme of “Healthy Meals with G-Mark; Made in G.”
The festival will commence on September 28th with the event “Making G Mark baek-kimchi (White Kimchi) with Buddhist Monk Seonje,” followed by a G Food Show Tour and educational programs on protecting Gyeonggi’s produce.
The following day (September 29th), visitors will have the opportunity to watch the making of traditional foods such asmakgeolli, rice cakes, and sweet rice drinks. An award ceremony for the best Gyeonggi Makgeolli brand will follow.
There will be a seminar on school cafeteria lunches on September 30th. As part of the seminar, Kim Eun-gyeong, also known as the “vegetable sommelier,” will show children how to cook simple meals.
On October 1, there will be a national G Food Quiz Event about local specialty products from all over Korea along with a G-Mark produce auction to promote various organic brands. There will also be a “Healthy Table” seminar.
On the last day there will be classes on how to prepare vegetable gardens in a box, how to grow vegetables on a balcony, and how to tend weekend gardens and school farms.
A government official said, “This year’s G Food Show will run in conjunction with Korea’s first Organic World Congress. I think this will be a fantastic opportunity to introduce Gyeonggi Province’s healthy food to the world. This will also be a great chance for Korean consumers to experience a much wider variety of health foods.”
