Anseong Namsadang Pungmuldan Troupe Invited to the International Folk Festival in Russia
(August 25, 2011)

The Anseong Municipal Namsadang Pungmuldan Troupe will be performing at the 6th International Folk Festival at the Vladimir in Moscow starting on September 2.

The folk festival, which will open in Moscow, Russia, is an annual art festival that takes place on Moscow Day in collaboration with the Vladimir Festival, which is held 180 kilometers northeast from the capital.

This festival will see twenty participating performers, mainly from Europe, stage unique traditional shows. Anseong will dispatch their Namsadang Nori Troupe, whose performance has been recognized by UNESCO as representative of Korea.

15 Namsadang members of the Anseong Municipal Namsadang Troupe will participate along with 4 related personnel. There they will promote this October’s 2011 CIOFF World Folkloriada and the 2012 Anseong World Folklore Festival. Benchmarking the event’s management and production is also part of the plan.

The troupe will perform at a celebration event and gala show on September 4th on Moscow Day and will then relocate to Vladimir and perform for locals. They will again appear on the closing event on the 9th and return to Korea on the 11th.

An Anseong official said, “We see this as an opportunity to promote Korea among all the people who are in Russia for the International Folk Art Festival. It is a chance for us to not only to provide them with a glimpse of Korean culture but also to promote the World Folkoriada that will take place in Anseong next year.”
