All Things of Gyeonggi Province Design in One Place
(August 25, 2011)
Gyeonggi Design Festival 2011 will take place at Goyang KINTEX from September 1st to 3rd
Hosted by Gyeonggi Province and supervised by the Gyeonggi Design Festival 2011 Steering Committee, Gyeonggi Design Festival 2011 will be held over a three-day period from September 1st to 3rd.
Operating under the 2011 theme of ‘Designs for All,’ this year’s event will feature products that can be used and enjoyed by children, senior citizens, and multicultural families.
The categories on display include public design, industrial design, and living design. There will be 500 booths at the event.
The organizers have prepared an exhibition where locals can see, feel, experience, and think about what ‘Designs for All’ means.
Fences, bollards, streetlights, pergola, sidewalks, and other superior public facilities will be displayed. Unique outdoor advertisements, works from famous advertisement companies, and award-winning public designs for children will be on display for public viewing as well.
Public design, urban landscaping, and outdoor advertisement policy promotions from each city and county will be on display at the policy promotion exhibit. Innovative designs from industrial design companies for public facilities, advertisements, environmental designs, product designs, and crafts will be displayed at the corporate exhibit.
The industrial design field will have on display award-winning industrial designs in the following seven categories: product, environment/ interior, visual, packaging, industrial crafts, jewelry, textile/ fashion, and video/multimedia. Another exhibition will be entirely dedicated to superior package designs from Japan.
The living design category is being introduced for the first this year. Its purpose is to correspond with visitors instead of placing emphasis on the provider.
– The Universal Design Experience Center represents ‘Design for All,’ and the design market will display daily goods to interest visitors. The design book café and Paju Book City will show people that books don’t have to be square; and the G-green workshop will teach participants how to make goods using recycled products. The Women of Tomorrow will display products made of recycled materials, and the Multicultural Center has prepared a design culture exhibit.
You can try your hand at designing your own shoes at the Converse Moving Custom Studio or you can have a caricature drawn in digital and analog formats at the Experience Center.
The Korea-China Design Forum is also available for those who want a more in-depth approach to public design. Seoul University professor Choe In-su will speak at the seminar ‘Play and Craft for Humans.’ ‘Rediscovering Community with Design’ is also part of the educational program.
Lee Se-jeong, head of Gyeonggi Province’s General Design Steering Committee, said, “This event is a combination of government, private, and industrial sectors. It takes all three to accomplish the event’s theme of ‘Design for All.’ This will shape next-generation design infrastructure.”
