Gyeonggi Province forms collaborative network with China

Both sides agreed on promoting close collaboration among local groups and establishing an FTA test areas.

– Gyeonggi Province’s delegation, led by Governor Kim Moon-soo, visited the Chinese provinces of Shandong and Jiangsu from August 24th and 26th. Gyeonggi Province’s delegation succeeds in establishing a comprehensive network with Chinese regions.

Gyeonggi Province’s delegation, led by Governor Kim Moon-soo, visited the Chinese provinces of Shandong and Jiangsu from August 24th and 26th. Representatives from seventeen districts accompanied the delegation.

The delegation and Shandong Province agreed on the establishment of a Korea-China FTA test area on August 25th and signed a collaborativen MOU with Jiangsu Province on the 26th.

The core of this cooperative mission was to attend the Gyeonggi Province-Shandong Province Collaboration Committee to discuss Korea-China FTA test area. Governor Kim Moon-soo and Shandong Governor Jiang Daming agreed to the Gyeonggi-Shandong Joint Declaration and announced that, : “Both countries will invest in a Korea-China free trade test area and will jointly leverage industries, transportation networks, and convenient trade locations based on the regions¡¯ superior locations.”

Both sides also discuss the construction of Korea-China train ferries, a Korea-China underwater tunnel, as well as an institutional plan for the Korea-China free trade test area to form an open innovative trial area, transportation and distribution trial area, and an industrial cooperation area that will be led by each participating city.

Thirty-four representatives of local city governments participated in the meeting where they agreed to collaborate on economic, culture, and sports-related exchanges. The Gyeonggi-Shandong Joint Declaration not only stimulates cooperation between Gyeonggi Province and Shandong but pairs districts and cities from each province for close collaboration in eight fields.

The collaboration spoints include: establishing model cooperation cases between districts in Korea and China; establishing a Korea-China free trade test area; further economic trade and exchange; pursuing ecological preserves; stimulating tourism and expanding related exchanges; further sports and human resources exchanges; constructive communication between youth groups; and stimulating the marine leisure industry.

Pyeongtaek – Jinan, Siheung – Dezhou, Hwaseong – Jining, Gunpo – Linyi, Gimpo – Heze, Yongin – Taian, Suwon – Jinan, Seongnam – Qingdao, Goyang – Binzhou, Bucheon – Weihai, Ansan – Yentai, Anyang – Weifang, Gwangju – Zibo, Yangju – Dongying, Pocheon – Laiwu, Yangpyeong – Zaozhuang, and Gwangmyeong – Liaocheng each had a “riendly City Joint Ceremony.”

The City Collaboration Committee was established in May 2008, but the meeting was postponed due to unfavorable conditions until it finally bore fruit this month. After the meeting, representatives attended an event agreeing on close collaboration between private companies from Korea and China. 

The next day, Gyeonggi Province delegates went to Nanjing of Jiangsu Province to sign an MOU. Jiangsu will be Gyeonggi Province’s 26th sister region overseas.

Governor Kim Moon-soo said, “hina had a late start due to political reasons, but they are catching up very quickly. We are similar in our ambitions. We are the perfect partners in achieving our goals.”
