Every Day Is a Festival
(September 15, 2011)
“Dance to the music and see the cosmos!”
Gyeonggi Tourism Organization’s Picks of the Month
After the scorching hot summer, autumn is finally here. The crisp autumnal breeze tickles the inner child in many Koreans, as autumn is widely deemed to be the most beautiful season in the nation. It is the perfect weather for hiking all over the country. To enjoy this ever-shortening season, we recommend visiting an autumn festival. Enjoy this bountiful time of year with your loved ones and create some unforgettable memories.
Put on your outdoor gear and head for the festival of your choice. In Gyeonggi Province, there is a festival every day. The Gyeonggi Tourism Organization has compiled a list of autumn festivals, including the Paju Folk Festival, the Guri Cosmos Festival, the Anseong World Folkloriada Pre Festival, and many more.
– Sing Hand-in-Hand with your Daughter at the Paju Folk Festival
Folk songs are back in style in Korea. Folk music is simple and straightforward, and is usually performed by a singer with a folk guitar and a harmonica, unlike popular music with its mindboggling electronic effects. Who says folk music is old? The old band Sesibong has been gaining lots of young fans recently.
Based on the unexpected resurgence of the folk genre, Paju has organized the Paju Folk Festival, to be held from October 1st to 3rd at Imjingak Pyeonghoa-Nuri Park. Popular artists from the ’70s and ’80s, including Yun Hyung-joo, Kim Se-hwan, Jeong Tae-choon, Park Eun-ok, Dongmulwon, Haebaragi, Jang pil-soon, and Yeohaeng Sketch will perform with more contemporary bands such as YB (Yoon Do-hyun Band), Focus, and Kang San-eh, independent bands like Chang Kiha and the Faces, and debut reality show finalist Jang Jae-in.
This year’s folk festival will promote exchange between the generations as a family event that can be enjoyed by everyone. Relax on the green lawn as you listen to sweet acoustic folk music. Now that is a great way to enjoy autumn and its delights.
