Gyeonggi Province’s superior produce fair G-Food Show will take place at the Namyangju Sports and Culture Center for five days from September 28th to October 2nd along with the Organic World Congress.
2011’s slogan is ‘G-Mark for Healthy Meals – Made in G,’ showcasing quality foods produced in Gyeonggi Province to metropolitan residents.
Asia’s first Organic World Congress will take place at the same time, bringing in both local and international visitors. A Gyeonggi Province government official said, “We want to make the most of the international event. It’s a fantastic opportunity to show the world how great our produce is.”
The G-Food Show chose five themes to promote Gyeonggi Province’s produce. Each theme will be introduced on each day of the event, making it easier for visitors to understand the concept.
The five daily themes are as follows: G-Mark, the symbol of the Gyeonggi Province governor’s approval; Global, the day Gyeonggi Province¡¯s traditional cuisines are available for tasting; Generation, representing an advanced school food system; Garden, representing urban agriculture that makes the city a greener place to live in; and Green, a day dedicated to promoting Gyeonggi Province’s green produce. Each day will feature different events and contents.
The promotion center will provide all sorts of information to visitors.
The G-Mark promotion center will introduce G-Mark’s history and achievements along with produce from G-Mark-approved producers. G-Mark has realized KRW 1 trillion in sales since it was first launched a decade ago, and has become Korea’s best local government produce brand. It is given to quality produce grown within Gyeonggi Province, with the governor’s guarantee.
At the export foods and traditional cuisine center visitors can experience Korea’s most famous foods and beverages including kimchi (kimchi), makgeolli (traditional Korean rice liquor), ddeok (rice cakes), and other traditional and processed rice foods. Visitors can also try their hand at making traditional foods.
At the eco-friendly school food center you can learn about the entire food distribution process. See how organic ingredients are sent to cafeterias using a sanitary process. In addition, educational seminars on healthy eating for teens will be held.
The Gyeonggi Province General Brand Center and the City/County Brand Center will exhibit G-Mark approved brands and produce. (Also available for purchase)
There will be plenty of programs visitors can participate in.
Tourists from outside the country will get a chance to make kimchi with Monk Seonje, make makgeolli (traditional Korean rice liquor), and eat old-fashioned lunch-time dishes.
Children will have plenty to do too. Kim Eun-gyeong, the “vegetable sommelier”, will show kids how to make vegetarian dishes, while Park Gyeong-ae, known for her delightful rice cakes, will show them how to make rice cakes. The Cheongwadae Children’s Journalist Troupe will be invited for a special event, and there will be rice cookie tastings.
Those who are interested in farming and gardening will get a chance to participate in classes on how to tend a small flower or vegetable garden. Families can enjoy puppet shows and other performances.
G-Mark-approved producers will host educational programs on how to protect Gyeonggi’s produce as well as an award ceremony for processed rice foods, classes and tastings for school foods, city/county brand promotions, and auctions. Other programs will also be available throughout the event.
Mun Je-yeol, Gyeonggi Province’s Brand Marketing Team leader, said, “The G-Food Show is a big event that will be attended by 125 companies including G-Mark-approved producers. All sorts of events will be staged for visitors. It will be a festival that satisfies the eyes, the ears, and of course, the stomach.”
